Why do you choose to run? For fitness; challenge; reconnection; release; pleasure; social connection; me time? Maybe you relate to a number of these.

Whatever your motivation and interest, our passion at RUN:ZEN is to help you investigate the many wellbeing benefits of running.

In Running with Heart and Mind, we will introduce the essential building blocks of mindful running. Our main focus will be to investigate how we can bring more open awareness to our thoughts, emotions, senses and environment through mindful movement and when running.

The workshop will also explore the Gratitude Attitude and how cultivating it can transform our heart, mind and running experience.

Your RUN:ZEN teachers

The workshop will be led by Cesare Saguato, Stuart McLeod and Claire Zamora.

Whether you are an experienced runner or just starting out, RUN:ZEN’s mindful running and yin yoga workshops introduce mindfulness skills that can help you to:

- run with more enjoyment and awareness
- develop greater agility and strength
- prevent injury through learning good running form
- find greater all-round wellbeing

Workshop format

The individual practices range from 5 to 40 minutes and anything in between, allowing elements to be delivered in a balanced, integrated and bite-sized way, suitable for beginners and existing practitioners alike.

The Running with Heart and Mind workshop will explore the core principles of the RUN:ZEN mindful running foundation and focus, and will include:

  • guided mindfulness meditations
  • 30 minute mindful run
  • 40 minute Yin Yoga practice
  • small group discussion for those who would like to share their experience

How will the run work?
Midway through the workshop, participants will be given guidance for a 30 minute self-led run, including how to apply the specific embodied awareness focus for mindful running and the S.T.O.P technique, before rejoining the online session.

Deepening our mindful running through Yin Yoga

Designed to balance the 'Yang' activity of running, in a Yin Yoga practice each posture is held for between 3-5 minutes. This allows the major muscle groups to relax thus placing a positive stress on the deeper connective tissues (joints, ligaments and tendons). It also allows us to be with ourselves experiencing different emotions, body sensations and noticing what arises enabling an inner resilience. As we learn to combine a Yin Yoga practice with running, we understand the physiological changes and internal states that can complement our running.

How fit do I need to be?

For our online events, all levels of running ability can be supported. The run practice will last up to 30 minutes. Running with walking is fine.

PLEASE NOTE: It is important that everyone participating in the workshop follows their Government's guidelines on physical distancing when running.

The Running with Heart and Mind workshop will be hosted on Zoom. To register, please complete the registration form below. Nearer the time we will send you a link to the meeting and full details to help you prepare for the workshop.

After the event, participants will receive a follow up email with supporting materials and will be invited to participate in RUN:ZEN's free community runs throughout the year.
