Running masterclass
Mindful breathing and running

We are delighted to announce our new 'mindful breathing and running' online running masterclass, offered in partnership with John Munro, founder of Long White Cloud Qigong. The masterclass will be suitable for experienced runners and those just starting out, and with a focus on the breath, the session is designed to support you to run with more efficiency, vitality and moment-to-moment awareness.

Check out our video of John describing the workshop here.

You will be guided through a series of exercises helping to explore the body's different breathing spaces before investigating together how we can work more effectively with the rhythm of the breath. We will then apply this learning as a mindful focus in a self-guided run.

What is qigong?
For this masterclass, we will be introducing qigong as simple physical exercises for the body, heart and mind which focus on qi - our living vital life-force energy. With practice, we can learn to gently wake up, feel and activate the flow of this energy.

The benefits of working with qi in running and in life
- Harnessing the power of the breath to bring us greater health, strength and vitality.
-
Becoming more confident in using the breath as an anchor point for our attention in stillness and in movement.

Workshop format

This Running Masterclass will explore awareness of the breath in running through:

  • guided breathing activities in stillness and movement
  • a 30-minute mindful run
  • small group discussions to investigate our experience

The individual practices range from five to thirty minutes and anything in between. This allows elements to be delivered in a balanced, integrated and bite-sized way, and is suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

Your teachers

The workshop will be led by
John Munro and
Stuart McLeod.

Can't make the date?

No problem. The masterclass will be recorded, so just register and pay as normal and we will send you the recording.

How does the run work if the workshop is online?

Midway through the workshop, participants will be given guidance for a 30 minute self-led run, including how to apply a focus for mindful running and the S.T.O.P practice, before rejoining the online session.

How fit do I need to be?

For our online events, all levels of running ability can be supported. The run practice will last up to 30 minutes, but running with walking is fine.

Past participant feedback at RUN:ZEN workshops

"I found the work on the posture and 'Alert but relaxed' very helpful as an attitude for my runs. Allowing myself to just go for a run without measuring it will be my next step."

"Very helpful with exercises that are meaningful and allows for a starting point to explore mindfully running."

"Excellent workshop - well delivered, well designed and worth attending "

"Thanks very much. Not sure what I expected but very pleased I attended. Level of information, tips etc and participants interaction was very balanced and measured."

"Informative, clear and sensitive presentation from the teachers."

What did you take away from the experience?
"That it is fine if my mind constantly wanders and drifts away, and that I can gently bring it home. I was struggling a lot with focus and concentration, now it is a bit easier."
